Dr. Tara Kenworthy LaMarca
Founder and Licensed Clinical Psychologist
About Me
I am a licensed clinical psychologist offering therapy for children, teens, and their caregivers. I have over 9 years of experience working with youth and families on issues such as child depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral problems. I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and behavioral parent training/parent management training, to best fit my clients’ needs and preferences. Though I am an expert in psychology, I view my clients as experts in their experience, so we work closely together to identify problems and goals for treatment. I also use measures to help identify problems and strengths and ensure that we are making progress over the course of treatment. Ultimately, I hope to impart skills and confidence that eventually allows my clients not to need me anymore!
I earned my PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of South Carolina. I completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Miami (UM) Mailman Center for Child Development, where I specialized in pediatric psychology, primarily working in school-based primary care clinics with middle and high-school students. During this time, I developed a soft spot for working with adolescents and teens. I continued working at UM as a staff psychologist after I received psychology licensure, where I also served as a supervisor to several psychologists-in-training.
In addition to years of academic and clinical training, I am also the mother of a toddler. Being a parent myself has deepened my understanding and empathy for the families with whom I work. Raising children is both very playful and very serious business. It’s a privilege to help other families navigate this important developmental period in their child’s life.
